Released 28th Feb 2011 on 360 Records
To celebrate 10 years in the music industry, Lethal Bizzle is set to release the ‘Best of Bizzle’ on 28th February, featuring 22 tracks selected by Bizzle himself, personally selected from his 4 chart released albums, including More Fire Crew CV (2001), Against All Oddz (2005), Back to Bizznizz (2007) and Go Hard (2009). Bizzle has made a specialty of crossing over to the most unlikely audiences without compromising his street credentials, and this album showcases a diverse mix some of his best songs over the last decade, ‘I did this album for the fans,’ Bizzle explains happily.
Not bad for a kid from Walthamstow who used to trade raps with his schoolyard bredrins to impress the girls. These humble beginnings take us back to the E17 where Lethal Lethal, fresh out of school and studying hard at college formed More Fire Crew with Ozzie B and Neeko. Signed to Polydor they achieved a massive UK No. 7 chart hit with 'Oi'. However the party was not to last, as the garage scene imploded under the weight of its own bad publicity, More Fire Crew were dropped by Polydor, and Bizzle was pushed back to the underground scene.
A few years later, Bizzle formed his own Lethal Bizzle Records imprint. And at the end of 2004, he released the single ‘Pow! (Forward)’. Produced by Dexplicit, it entered at 11 on the U.K. pop charts and earned him a MOBO award for Best Single (he was also nominated for Best Newcomer).
‘Pow (Forward)’ became the anthem of the underground music scene - an accolade it still holds. However its popularity in clubs and the energy it caused led to it being banned by many major radio outlets, and clubs up and down the country banned Bizzle from performing it. His only outlet to perform was at indie clubs and dingy bars in the UK, where he could slip onto the bill unnoticed. He embarked on a Club NME tour in 2006 and won over skeptical indie audiences with his high-paced energetic live performance.
Bizzle was swiftly signed to V2 Music to release his solo grime debut album ‘Against All Oddz’, released in mid-2005. His second album ‘Back to Bizznizz’ was one of the great experimental delights of 2007, incorporating collaborations with Kate Nash and Babyshambles, and inspired takes on anthems by The Clash (‘Police On My Back’) and The Ruts (‘Babylon’s Burning The Ghetto’) that charmed punks, rockers and indie kids while keeping his cred as one of the urban underground’s roughest MC’s intact.
From then on, Bizzle became routinely able to reach the parts of our culture other rappers cannot reach. From appearing on The NME cool list to slagging off David Cameron on Newsnight; from performing with Pete Doherty at Glasto 2007 to starring on the same year’s Top Gear special for Comic Relief, Bizzle has made a specialty of crossing over to the most unlikely audiences without compromising his street credentials.
After the fall of V2 Music, Bizzle was back in control on his own Lethal Bizzle Records label, and released his 3rd album Go Hard, a true party album, he worked with the usual diverse array of producers including funky house don Donaeo, uberproducer Mark Ronson and punk heroes Gallows, as well as longtime collaborators Dexplicit and Youngstar, the hardest-working MC in Britain was on a mission to reconnect with his uniquely multi-cultural fanbase, and raring to road-test the funkiest album of his career thus far.
10 years on the from Bizzle’s first major release with More Fire Crew, he brings back a new version Pow 2011, brought about by fans and other artists on Twitter. Featuring a stellar cast of the ‘top grime dogs’, appearing on the track in order; Lethal Bizzle, JME, Wiley, Chipmunk, Face, P Money, Ghetts and Kano, Pow 2011 is out on 6th February.
Bizzle is currently working on a brand new album, to be released near the end of 2011. The journey continues..
