EXAMPLE IS READY TO NAME AND SHAME
Detail:
WATCH out girls, Brit rapper Example is prepared to name and shame you in his music.

The Londoner, Elliot Gleave to his friends, has crashed into the top 10 with Won’t Go Quietly, a track about bunny boilers who will not get out of his bed the morning after.

The endearingly honest rhymer told me: “I was seeing this girl who was a bit mad. She was really good in bed but she wouldn’t leave the next day.

“Things got messy so I turned her into this killer femme fatale for the song.”

Example, 27, firmly believes his second album will become the official soundtrack to the summer.

He said: “It’s really a call to arms to get off your nut. A fun party album – nothing too clever.

“I’m booked to play about 10 festivals this summer and my album is like a dropping a giant pill.”

Part of Example’s newfound chart success is down to his discovery of big pop choruses.

“I’m into the pop thing more than the rap now,” he admitted. “I thought I wanted to be a credible rapper before and I put a lot of pressure on myself

“But I’m much more comfortable writing big pop choruses than a 12-bar rap.

“Certain people in hip hop will call me a sell-out, but I’m just being true to myself.”

And despite being pals with The Streets, Chase & Status and Calvin Harris, 26, you will not find this guy name dropping.

“There’s pressure to always do collaborations these days,” he said.

“Half of the top 10 seem to be helping each other or appearing on each other’s records. I don’t want to use anyone else’s image to sell my records. I work with Calvin Harris but I’m not advertising it.”

And Example thinks struggling at the start of his career was a blessing in disguise. He said: “It’s been over two years since I released my first album.

“I was disheartened when it didn’t do well, but it was probably a good thing to go through.

“I wouldn’t be the artist I am now without going through that experience.”

Won’t Go Quietly, the album, drops in April.
