CRAIG DAVID PLANS BIG COME BACK
|

News Date: 11 Mar,2010 09:46 AM

|
News Detail :
|
ORIGINAL garage star Craig David is gunning for a huge comeback. And he is getting a little help from hot shot urban mates Chipmunk, 22, Jay Sean, 28, and Tinie Tempah, 21.
Buoyed by the success of the new crop of hip-hop and R&B lads, the honey-piped singer has re-invented himself with slinky soul album Signed, Sealed, Delivered.
At the launch of the disc at London’s Scala, Craig was happy to look to the future instead of re-winding to the past. Craig told the Daily Star: “I’ve loved watching how Chipmunk, Jay, Tinie, Skepta and Kano’s perseverance has paid off and how they’ve gone from underground to mainstream.
“The scene is blowing up right now.
“My advice to Tinie would be to enjoy every moment and work hard.
“When I started out with Artful Dodger we were defining this new cross between MC and rapper, so when those guys say: ‘You paved the way,’ that’s really cool. It’s great to feel respect and positivity from those guys.”
With a snappy set, including debut hit Fill Me In, Craig showed he’s still got what it takes to whip an audience into a frenzy.
Afterwards he said: “When I started out you had to be physically out there, doing live shows and promoting because there was no MySpace getting your music out to the world.”
He explained: “I always want to stay ahead of the game rather than just doing what’s hot right now.
“The single has a freshness to it and sounds wicked in clubs.”
Meanwhile the new album, out on March 29, is a mix of new tracks and Motown covers.
Craig said: “When I moved to (new label) Universal they jumped all over the Motown idea and let me create the album I wanted to create. Recording it gave me a new-found respect for the artists.
“My intention was to sing the songs exactly as the original artists had, no styling around, no lowering of keys, no cheating.
“I wanted to hit every note Stevie Wonder did. If you like my voice and you like these songs, you’re going to like the album.” Ladies, get ready...
New single One More Lie (Standing In The Shadows), out Monday, sees Craig, 28, ditch the chart-friendly garage sound he helped to create a decade ago for Ibiza-style house.
