Kelis gives fans and roadies the silent treatment when on tour and on 'official vocal rest', writing all her messages on a notepad.
The R&B diva, on tour with her fifth album Flesh Tone, says she loves having a break from talking, and drives people crazy with the silent treatment.
She said: "I'll give my vocals a rest and go for weeks without talking.
"I just write on a notepad. It makes people crazy, it's awesome.
"There is so much unnecessary communication, it feels like a real sense of peace.
"I'll even go to nightclubs with my notepads, just giving the thumbs up or down to communicate.
"I have a stash of notepads from my silent periods.
"And I sometimes look back at them.
"Over a six-week period my handwriting gets progressively worse. A one-sided conversation."
