YOUNG KOF
|
Born in Liverpool in 1983 Young Kof’s hunger and creativity for music began to be nurtured as he grew up in East London, which now appears to be the epicentre of today’s urban music. Here the influence of urban music and lifestyle began to shape Young Kof’s unique and creative style.
Young Kof took all the opportunities he could to showcase his talent. He was involved in a variety of solo work, music groups, school plays such as Bugsy Malone and Oliver and even talent shows at Butlins. A representative spotted him from BET (Black Entertainment Television) at a fashion show in which he was singing, from there he was asked to sing on BET’s music show. Kofi even had the opportunity to perform on the same night’s line up as Ms Dynamite during the time she was becoming a known on the urban music scene. Further during his late teens Kofi was part of a group called Urban Souls. Together Kofi and his female partner wrote many songs, however due to the lack of resources they were not able to pursue their dreams and record their songs.
Young Kof’s music has a certain truth and honesty which sets his music apart from the rest. His vocal style and sound is unique from most and he doesn’t try to have an American sound. He actually describes his sound as “Real good music” as if it is a sub-genre of its own. Kof takes his musical inspiration not only from life, but also from artists he admires such as Jay-Z, Usher and Stevie Wonder.
Young Kof has performed across the nation, at such hotspots as Club Creation, Cargo, Carling Academy, Arena and so many more. He has shared the stage with international starts such as Ms Dynamite, Roll Deep, Skinnyman and DJ Semtex. Further Kof receives regular radio play from the likes of 1Xtra, Choice FM, Juice FM, Radio City, BBC Merseyside through to Xtreme Fm and Rinse FM to radio station in Europe and America. At the same time his music video for the song "Fresh" was played on heavy rotation on digital television. The video for "Where Did We Go Wrong Remix" (Channel U (#37) is currently Number 9 in Channel U Chart. It seems 2006 has more in store for this Young Man!
