YORKSHIRE TERRIERZ
|
Yorkshire Terrierz are a hip-hop group based in Chapeltown, Leeds. The group consists of five main members, three mc's, one vocalist and a producer. Dogge, Low-Key, Dirtz, Rachael and Menza.
Dogge, Low-Key, Dirtz and Menza were friends in primary school and since the late eighties have been into hip-hop music. Inspiration came from the usual hip-hop legends, Public Enemy, N.W.A. Wu-Tang and Nas to name a few.
They have always been involved in local hip-hop, from DJ'ing and free-styling on pirate radio and performing as part of bands such as Ruffneck Juniors, Classified and Stay Focus.
In 2002 Yorkshire Terrierz were formed and in 2005 their 22 track debut album 'Blended In West Yorkshire' was independently released. Rachael featured on several tracks and became an official member of the crew. They are receiving a lot of attention due to the success of the album and have an ever increasing fan-base in and around the Leeds area. They received a four out of five star review from music-news.com beating the likes of Twista and Eminems Encore. Read review

Much of their material is specific to the place where they were raised, in and around Chapeltown, Leeds. They don't shy away from controversial subjects such as sex, drugs, race and living in an inner-city area. Their music as been described as UK Urban Hip Hop With A Yorkshire Flava.
Perforformaces, interviews and radio airplay are growing and they are the hosts of a monthly urban music night, showcasing local talent.
The video for the single 'What's Ya Life Like?' is finished and the album from which it is taken 'Nowt Tekken Out' will hopefully be released this summer. As with the first album this one is all self funded.
