WARREN G
|
Warren Griffin III was born on 10th November, 1970 in Long Beach, California.
In 1991, with Nate Dogg and Snoop Dogg, Warren G formed the group called “213” - their area code. All three members had conflicts with the law and spent time in jail: this motivated them to get jobs, also working on their music on the side.
Finally, the V.I.P. record store permitted the trio to practice and record in a back room. Warren G introduced the group to his step-brother Dr. Dre. Dr. Dre was impressed and signed Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg to his and Suge Knight's record company, Death Row Records. 213 broke up before releasing any records, and the three artists followed separate careers. Death Row Records did not sign Warren G, but he was a regular contributor to many Death Row albums.
In 1994, Warren released his debut album “Regulate... G Funk Era” that included the hit "Regulate". The song quickly became a hit and peaked at #2 on the Billboard charts. The album finally went triple platinum and "This D.J." became his second Top 10 hit.
In 1997, Warren G recorded his second album "Take a Look Over Your Shoulder (Reality)". While achieving a hit with a rap remake of "I Shot the Sheriff", this album was a commercial success going double platinum. "I Want It All" released in 1999, was Warren G’s third album, but it did not produce any hit singles.
In 2003, Warren G, Snoop Dogg, and Nate Dogg reunited 213 and recorded the album “The Hard Way” including the song "Groupie Luv". On October 11th 2005, Warren G released a new album called “In the Mid-Nite Hour” on an independent label.
