SNOOP DOGG
|
Nicknamed Snoop by his mother because of his resemblance to Snoopy, Calvin Broadus, raised in California, frequently ran into trouble with the law. Snoop gave up crime, after featuring on Dr Dre’s debut album, “The Chronic”.
His much anticipated debut album “Doggystyle”, released in 1993, became the first debut album to enter at number one, eventually going quadruple platinum. Whilst recording the album, Snoop was arrested in connection with a fatal drive-by shooting.
He was acquitted of all charges in 1996. After Gansta rap went out of fashion, 2Pac was murdered, and Dr Dre left Death Row to his controversial partner Suge Knight, Snoop signed to Master P’s No Limit records, and released a series of albums.
By this time Snoop had become a cultural phenomenon.
Today, Snoop has starred in numerous films, gaining him critical acclaim, has his own series “Doggy Fizzle Televizzle”, is partnering with Pony to create a shoe collection called “The One and Only”, to be unveiled this November, is heading up the “Snooper Bowl” football tournament with all proceeds going to his charity, and a has a smash hit new album which features the big-selling hit “Drop it Like it’s Hot”.
Proving it’s definitely a Doggy, Dogg World.
