NELLY
|
In the summer of 2004 the world was introduced to an unknown rapper from St. Louis, who went on to dominate the Pop-Rap world.
Born Cornell Haynes Jr., Nelly was tempted by the streets, until his mother moved the family to nearby suburban, University City.
It was there that he shifted his attention to playing baseball; writing rhymes and with some friends formed the St Lunatics.
Frustrated with failed attempts to land a record deal, the group decided Nelly would have better chance as a solist. Which proved to be a smart move as Nelly has since, won three Grammies, and sold close to 30 million singles/albums worldwide.
Behind the music, Nelly is CEO of his label, Derrty Entertainment, runs Vokal and Apple Bottoms clothing lines, created Pimp Juice – an energy drink, and is the founder of two non-profit organizations: 4 Sho 4 Kids and Jes Us 4 Jackie.
In 2002, Nelly moved into acting starring in independently released Snipes, and recently landing a role in, “The Longest Yard” starring Adam Sandler and Chris Rock. And if that wasn’t enough, in 2004, Nelly became the first rap artist to release a separately released double album, “Sweat/Suit”, which further proves Nelly as a commercial and creative genius.
