LADY SOVEREIGN
|
Hailing from Chalk hill Estate in Wembley, the self-proclaimed "Cheeky Midget" Lady Sovereign cannot be ignored.
A product of 90`s youth culture, her music is influenced by grime, garage and jungle while also embracing ragga, hip hope, R&B, hardcore, country and western.
The 18 year-old who looks about 14 at the most, began writing a number of years ago, after getting kicked out of school and consequently sent to a drama class, where she auditioned for a role in a low-budget television film.
“I got the main part. Then I had to do a song for the film. This producer heard it, and invited me down to the studio saying, ‘do you wanna work on some stuff’? That was my first step up the ladder.”
Despite having only just signed her record deal, Sovereign has already supported Obie Trice, Dizzee Rascal, and The Streets on UK tour dates. She has also played at events such as Respect, Love Music Hate Racism, and the Lord Mayors Urban Show.
Lady Sovereign is at a critical point. As soon as the British public realise it’s OK to like someone who is, a freak in the scene who should never have been handed a microphone, then she can begin to take over the world.
