CHOONG FAMILY

Choong Family are a collective of professional artists, who breaks the borders between the various urban genres of hip hop, soul and R&B and aspires to help define UK urban music as a world respected force.
The group consists of four members, each with extraordinary talents and a cultivated sound: the "intellectual" rapper Afix, the reluctant sweet singer/rapper Scandal, the strong religious toned singer H.T and the street rapper Nutz P.
They chose their stage name since "Choong" means anything that's heavy, gully, denoting a particular flavour of excellence, and "Family" was the best way they had to define their formidable group, formed out of friendships through the years.
The foundation of Choong Family started with Afix, Scandal, HT and Nutz P meeting at the University of Luton. Not satisfied with just doing raves on campus, after graduation they took it more seriously. They booked studio sessions, pressed albums, shot videos and decided to do things independently without the support of a big label.
On February 4, 2005 Choong Family released a promo CD of the "Pain Don't Stop/More Murking" single, which received raved reviews. "Pain Don’t Stop" was included amongst a select list of UK tracks to on Sony BMG’s Street Beatz compilation CD while "The More Murking" video has been included on U Channel’s Volume 2 mixtape DVD.
Shortly after, in May, the group decided to release a track from their upcoming album. The single "Fall back/Memory Lane" received huge support from radio stations, most notably on London’s Choice FM.
Their debut album "Higher Elevation" was officially released on August 30, 2005. In this extremely versatile album, the Choong Family wrote off their own experiences, like what they are doing and going through.
Currently working on their second album at Overtones Studios, Holborn, the Fam are determined to bring a set a new benchmark for the urban scene in the UK through the incorporation of Hip Hop, Grime, R&B and Soul aspects.
On July 3, 2006 the group released the Platinum Edition DVD/CD album bundle, 3 hours of footage including a 1 hour documentary on the award winning group, radio interviews, live performances and behind the scenes interviews and tour footage.
